SICHREM organised the 3rd Training program on the title ‘Using International Mechanisms for Human Rights – Scope and Limitations for Indian NGO’s’ on 19th & 20th of October 2012. Dr. Rajkumar, who served as an Independent Expert to the UN was the resource person. 20 participants from different background participated and gained knowledge on UN human rights system and the standards and institutions, procedures and mechanisms, the role of human rights in the wider UN system, and on the potential and limits of the United Nations in protecting and promoting human rights. The training also thrown light on how law, policy and diplomacy come together and have shaped the UN human rights system, and how the system can be explained in theory and the functions in practice. Most importantly the limitation for Indian NGO’s in using these mechanisms.

An event was organised in Mysore by SICHREM in support of RCT, Denmark and PVCHR on the 10th September 2012 to Honour the Torture Survivors. The program was inaugurated by Human rights activist and political science professor Muzzafar Assadi. The other guests who graced the occasion with there presence are Mr. M Chandrasekhar, President of District Kannada Sahitya Parishat; Sri Mokshapathi Swamiji of Ravandoor Murugha mutt, Mr. Purigali Maradeshmurthy, Journalist and Mr. Mathews Philip, Executive Director, SICHREM.
Five torture survivors were honored during the ceremony. Their stories were read out and were felicitated by the dignitaries with garland, fruits bouquet and a shawl.
