Sichrem files a complaint to National Human Rights Commission-NHRC in support of wheel chair bound Prof. Kaushik Kumar Majumdar, who was denied travel with his wheel chair by Air India Staff from Bangalore to Kolkata even after completing all security checks.

On 17th December 2017, he was denied from boarding the Air India Aircraft flight from Bangalore to Kolkata. Even though his wheel chair was entirely scanned by the security personnel at the Airport and was given clearance. His Boarding Pass was duly stamped but the Air India ground staff did not allow him board the aircraft with his wheel chair.

This incident also shows the lack of awareness and sensitization among the officials and authorities who are supposed to be handling the persons with disabilities. If the government and its agencies are not caring about people with disabilities and also harassing and humiliating the person who needs special care and attention is a matter of serious Human Rights Violation.

Therefore we request the honourable commission to intervene in to the matter to make an enquiry and to initiate stringent action against officials and authorities who are at fault.
