‘Dalit Youth dies in Police Custody’.
April 1, 2017Manikanta aged 25 years was a resident of Gandhinagar, Mysore and he was an autoriksha driver, belonged to Dalit community. There was a fight between Manikanta and his neighbor for some reasons. A neighbor informed the police. Manikanta was taken into custody by the police of N.R Police Station on 10th March at 11 p.m. His mother and brother visited the police station at 11.45 pm and did not find him at N.R police station. Police informed the mother that he is in the hospital and asked them to come in the morning. They never told them which hospital he is admitted. At around 6 am on 11th, his mother and brother went to the police station and the police informed her that Manikanta passed away and that his body is in K.R.Hospital.
The SICHREM DHRC in Mysore has done a fact- finding and filled a complaint before the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission to take action.
‘Domestic Girl Child Labourer rescued by Childline’.
April 1, 2017On 9th March, 2017 SICHREM received an information about an 11 year old girl who was working in a flat at GRAZIA Apartment in Lingarajapuram. SICHREM informed the childline attached to APSA immediately. Child line staff visited the house on 11th March, 2017 and found that the girl was working in that house for a year and was deprived from going to school she was brought from Ranchi, Child line rescued the girl and informed her mother and further actions are under process.
